Halifax Credit Card Application - First Accepted and then Declined!

Options
Hello,

I've been in a weird situation lately with Halifax. I applied for the Halifax All in One card online last week and was accepted instantly with a credit limit of £7800. The application approval letter and the credit agreement was sent out by post the next day.

Then, I received a letter yesterday saying that my credit card application has not been successful! I called them up but they were unable to provide any further information on this matter. I don't have any missed payments or any other gremlins on my credit report.

I've no idea what caused this, so any advice on this matter would be appreciated. Has anyone faced this issue before?

Thanks.

Its possible and does happen. You are accepted electronically, and then when someone checks, they decline the automatic offer you got given.

It could be something as simple as you opening up another Halifax or TSB account recently, or hundreds of other reasons.

As above not sure if Halifax has a history of this but back in 2010 BC were doing exactly the same.

Thanks for your replies Gromitt and BugsyBrowne, much appreciated. I had applied for a Halifax current account at the same time, which has been opened alright without any issues. This might explain their decision, although still baffling nonetheless.

I am beginning to wonder if the same thing has happened to me. I applied for the Bank of Scotland All in one (BOS are part of Halifax) and almost straight away I got the credit agreement. But that was 9 days ago I sent it off and I've not heard anything back, so I'm kind of beginning to wonder now if they've changed their mind.

How long did you have to wait before they told you it was declined?

My decline letter came the next working day after the credit agreement, before I even had a chance to send it off.

Halifax/BOS are notoriously slow at sending cards out. From application to actually getting the card, for me, took 3 weeks

I gather that Lloyds now issue some of their cards as some have payments going to a TSB sortcode (77) rather than BOS (80) one.

As for Halifax: it's just a brand name for Bank of Scotland ;)

I'd be tempted to sign and return it anyway...just to see what happens.

Mine took 5 weeks, but I got there in the end.
