Is there any software or gadgets that I could use for monitoring my broadband connection, speed, etc on an ongoing, 24/7 basis?
There's times when it slows to a crawl, and whilst I'd love to do a speedtest from speedtest.org or similar, when it goes slow, I can't even open their site, never mind carry out a test. By the time I can get onto the speedtest site, things are back to normal, and there's little point running the test.

JD'a auto speedtester - http://www.gmwsoftware.co.uk/
You'll need to run a PC 24x7 if you want to monitor 24x7.
If your IP is fairly static you may want to try http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/monitors.html which needs your router to be on and set to respond to pings. It will not give direct speed results though and needs some interpretation.0 -

Does it just go slow at peak times ?I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0
