Ok had the big talk yesterday with the MD, and have got my pay rise, just need the sign off by the accountant.

So will be able to upgrade my wheels.
So ladies and gents I need some suggestions of what to test drive

I need:
Decent sized boot
Brakes that bite harder than an annoyed pit bull
Great handling and grip
Ferocious acceleration, Top speed unimportant
Something that is happy pottering up and down the M1, but will hitch its skirt up when it sees a twisty B road.
MPG - Double figures at least, but not critical, As I get work mileage paid for.
Budget 30-35K will consider up to 3 yrs old, and lease or outright purchase.

After reading Brazilian Waxs posts, The first on the list is the EVO FQ, i assume the FQ bit stands for feffing quick?

Please no tree hugger type cars please, becuase all they make me want to do is buy a G Classe AMG.

So what cars put a smile on your face? and what should I test drive?

I was going to suggest the Megane R26 and would rate it above both of those two. The R26 has Limited Slip Differential so for high speed cornering it drives like it's on rails. Looking at the Evo FQ, these aren't in the same league.

From new, you won't get much faster acceleration than the Evo for circa £30k. You get alot of bang for your buck as it were.

    You'll get an 12-18 month old Jaguar S-Type R for that money. 4.2 supercharged V8, 0-60 in approx 5.3 seconds, 20-25mpg.

Perhaps not as flash looking as the others mentioned but in a different league. Understated, if you consider 19 inch alloys and 11 inch-wide tyres understated.

Alternatively, if you want more space you might stretch to an XJR...

I'd go into stealth mode and get a Volvo V70R, tweak it and annoy Evo owners, but if you don't mind every spotty youth trying to race you the Evo will be a hoot.

    M5?

    Porsche 911?

If your considering the Evo, you gotta look at the scooby too!

Not sure about what prices are, but BMW M3/M5/M6?

Mmm good choices there, Currently have a forester Turbo S, love the handling, grip and old school turbo, AND the best thing its understated so gets ignored like the Volvo V70, until I take it up to 5500rpm:D
Hadnt considered the Jag, but looking at the specs and prices looks well worth a test drive.
Would love an RS4 but budget wont stretch to that. Evo and Type R test drive booked tomorrow:D although passing the Honda garage I noticed a shiny black NSX, Whatever I choose I am going to enjoy the process.

Don't do it!! Drive it and you'll definitely be hooked. I test drove one a few years ago. Suffice to say spent a good half hour on the motorway accelerating between 70 and ..... in 3rd. The music coming from the engine just behind your back is unbelievable. And it's a Honda so will drive like a Civic around town and have passable servicing costs. You do have to be a bit of an exhibitionist though.

Only thing that put me off was the thought of how easy it would be to resell quickly if the job situation went pear-shaped. Knowing I've got a job 3 years on, wish I'd bought it....sigh.
