Wanted a brass rail for the fireplace

I live in an old cottage and the fire surround is two big stone uprights with a length of stone across the top functioning as 'mantle piece'.
Sometimes I hang bits of damp washing from this to air off in the heat from the solid fuel stove (when it is cooling down) - but it's a bit precarious.
Been looking for a brass rail to fix along the front face of the mantle piece by means of a bracket/fixing at each side.
I've seen these on old fireplaces but don't know if there is a name for them and unfortunately I'm not very good at the description - though I can picture exactly what I want! :wall:
Short of finding something in an antique shop/salvage place has anyone any idea about how I might achieve 'the look'?
I've thought of a brass curtain pole but need something substantial which will also be resistant to heat.

Rather than ruining the stone with a brass pole, why not just use a clothes horse?0

Yes I found that online just after posting thanks. It's just a few inches short of my ideal length. Not sure whether to contact them. It's also in a different part of the country so would have to be mailed somehow :huh:0 -
It's quite rough hewn stone - not nice smooth cut stone so I don't think it will harm it. In fact it could do with a bit of embelishment.
Put it on the floor in front, not on the stone. This sort is compact and attractive:

I don't have much space to play with thanks. At least the rail would be a permanent 'feature' as well as out of the way.0 -
Hi,
what about making something up yourself with plumbers copper pipe?0 -
Copper goes green when wet and that would transfer to the washing :eek:0
