Car insurance - they cancelled the policy?

LONG RAMBLE:
I purchased a car insurance policy for a 1998 Jaguar XJ almost 2 months ago. I received a letter last week stating that the Insurance company hadn't received the required documentation, (mileage declaration, photocopy of licence and proof of address). I had sent these out to them over a month ago.
The letter informed me that they intended to cancel the policy, since they hadn't got the necessary documents. Therefore I called them for a discussion. I informed customer services agent that I had already sent the documents, and if required could do so again with registered delivery. She put me on hold, and after quite a long time, she got back to me with the following message:
"The insurer will be cancelling the policy because the vehicle is a classic car, and because you own another vehicle."
Now I don't own another vehicle, and informed the agent hat this was not correct. Firstly classic cars, to my understanding are 26 years old or more. And secondly I had never told them I own another vehicle, (i did tell them that i have access to another car, which is not mine as a named driver). On top of all this the insurance company are applying a cancellation charge, and so are the brokers. I don't understand how this can be fair trading, since they are cancelling the policy?
Ideally i would want to stop the cancellation, since I can't find another deal anywhere near as cheap, (this is a limited mileage policy for 9k miles and without any previous NCBs). It seems to me they might have misquoted the price (the new price is 11 times the price I paid), and now want to back-track from the commitment, making up whatever story they can....from missing documents to me owning another car, and classic car status.
Therefore I need advice on how to approach them in regards to them breaching the agreement made, and at the worst stop them from applying a cancellation charge....I look forard to your replies>>>>>

Have you seen the impact on future prices by having to declare you've had insurance cancelled? And that is for life and across most your insurances. The cancellation fee is really neither here not there in comparison.
Evidently you need to address each point in turn, if they are cancelling because of you owning another vehicle then you need to make a statement that you dont and ask them for the proof that you do own a second vehicle.
On the point of "classic car" there is no standard definition and an old car certainly doesnt automatically make it a classic car. Check their policybook for a standard definition and look for the exclusion clause. Again they knew the age of the vehicle when they quoted so have no grounds to dispute it based on age now.
Ultimately you may end up having to go to the FOS and you should advise them that you intend to do this, so may have to take a large hit on premiums now and include that in your claim for compensation against them0 -
Sounds like you got proper classis car cover.
Fixed mileage agreed value, BUT it usually states it shoulf be your 2nd car or mode of transport and not used for commuting, And garaged at night etc.
No claims is not needed and not applied usually.
Many variations on this though. You need an everyday policy on an older car. Just because its 26 years old doesnt mean its a classic.
It can be older or younger to qualify.
I know someone that got a classic policy on an 8 year old car. But it was an everyday classic not garaged and commuting etc.
Who is it with and what were the terms?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
