I'm looking for a tablet for my 12 year old, however i'm a little lost.
I dont want to pay out a mega amount ie ipad, but want one that he can play games on, watch You Tube, Facebook etc.
I was thinking about a samsung or a nexus?
Just seen this for £70 on KGB deals, any use?

Thanks in advance, I dont have a clue with these things.

I'll expect a storm of protest from "the old brigade" for suggesting an alternative (Expressing anything but negative opinions here can lead to suspicions that you're somehow in the pay of a seller) That alternative is http://zzkko.com/electronics/android-tablet-pcs.html
Strange outfit... they seem to act as an "ad-hoc buyer's cooperative"; they offer items for sale, wait until they've got enough takers to get a good deal from the wholesalers, then buy and ship the items - usually at VERY low prices. (Not THAT strange... a local computer shop - called "Protege" - started out the same way, less than a mile from my home here in Weston!) The prices really ARE cheap.
The Pipo U1 seems to be an excellent 7" tablet, the Cube U30GT "Pea" is an excellent 10" tablet. (Both offer higher specs than your own suggestion, and for lower prices.) "Ah, but what about import taxes?!" I've bought three tablets from China, several friends have bought them too... none of us have been charged duty on them. You MIGHT get stung.. but it's improbable. What if it goes wrong? Firstly, with hardware of this kind, the chances of it "going wrong" in a manner protected by UK law are absolutely minute compared to it getting dropped, trodden on, droped down the loo or into the bath, wrecked by over-enthusiastic "tinkering" (none of which WOULD be covered)
For once, even although Ainol Products are on offer, I'm not commending them, as what's being offered is their low-budget "Mars" model, and the $140 Pipo is rather closer in spec' to the Ainol 7" tablet that I own than the Mars is. Pipo, Cube and Onda are brands which aren't well known in the UK (yes, they have UK distributors, but said distributors seem to be hibernating!) Elsewhere in the world, they ARE well known. Youtube is an excellent place to find and check out reviews of them; for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6mI4tjTp6Q&feature=youtu.be

General rule, NEVER buy from somewhere that doesn't put contact details clearly on there website.
This website is owned by a sole trader whos registered it at there house. I can't see any telephone numbers or address on that website. £70 is about the going rate, and £170 odd is a joke!
Also don't buy tablets from outside the EU. You pay through the nose on duty, and its also hard to return items, and deal with issues.
All these you can do what you specify - although the current high end games will run like a dog on the lower spec tablets.

As a general rule, DON'T make categorical statements that then turn out to be incorrect - because it makes you look like an idiot. I bought a watch a couple of weeks back from Deal Extreme (Massive Chinese retail "front" for a huge number of manufacturers, bit like EBay, where every item is "Buy it now") The watch (a self-winding mechanical model) arrived, and the sweep second hand had fallen off, making the watch useless: the fallen-off hand gets in the way of the other two, and jams things. Classic example of a purchase made OUTSIDE of the UK and EU of an article that turned out to be "dead on arrival".
So... just HOW hard was it to "return items?" Deal Extreme has a link on every page to get an RMA number; getting one requires sending a digital snapshot of the item (depicting the damage) and another of the packaging. DX then agreed that there was a problem, apologised, asked if I'd be willing to return the item for a replacement, and offered to reimburse me for the cost of doing so. I agreed, and they gave me the address of a UK AGENT to return the item to. (So, not only am I NOT lumbered with the cost of shipping the item back to China, but they're going to repay the cost of recorded delivery to Portsmouth).
Note that DX sells a wide range of Chinese tablets... and (a) sells them at Chinese prices. (b) in some cases will price match rival retailers.
There is so MUCH codswallop talked about "the dangers of buying direct from China" mostly by people who've taken their own advice, and therefore have never actually DONE it. But that doesn't stop 'em from giving advice on something of which their knowledge is - at best - no more than theoretical. It's kind of like taking advice on sex from a Catholic priest.0 -

Follow you own advice on that then. There is so MUCH codswallop talked
Then stop saying it then. You are trying to get people to beleive they can save money, and hide the fact that duty is payable on imports above a certain value, and hope that you won't get caught.
Your idea that money can be saved by buying a tablet from China, when companies like play stock the same products in the UK at similar prices - a lot less when duty is taken into acount - is laughable.0 -

It depends what you want the tablet to do though. Although in this case "play games on" isn't to helpful a description - does it mean "dark meadow" or "world of goo".
In some cases of just wanting a cheap tablet to stream to hdmi or read a few ebooks occasionally a "cheap" tablet is sufficent.
(although I have to say the ones on the link above are expensive IMO)0 -
Been looking for a cheap tablet myself and have been looking at this http://www.amazon.co.uk/NATPC-M009S-Dual-Android-Tablet/dp/B007WEZTSA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351771449&sr=8-1
You can get it even cheaper at £64.99 on Ebay.
Would suggest searching on Amazon or Hot uk deals and look at reviews.
Only problems mentioned in the main about these cheap tablets is they often need a bit of tweaking out of the box and they can be a bit buggy.
On buying outside of the EU well you have to look and the price and consider the gamble. Chances are you wont have any problems but if you do then the costs will probably be more expensive than buying from the UK.0 -
I recently purchasd a natpc rtb ultimate tablet from amazon.
for £90 you can't go wrong!0
