Birthdays!

It's my birthday soon and bf is nagging me for what I want. The days of a nice surprise are well over.

I tried helping by saying, take me out for the day and buy me dinner in a nice restaurant, but he says, Ok, where would you like to go?! Gosh, do I have to do everything?! Guess so.

Anyhows, just wondered if anyone could recommend where we could go for the day and what to do, just want to get out and about really. Live near London (but want to avoid that at all costs, don't like the place) and don't mind travelling for a bit in the car.

Feel free to move this if I have put it in completely the wrong place.

What about a visit to a National Trust property? They have some great, interesting places, usually with stunning grounds and they also have great resturants/tea rooms with tasty home made (and often home grown) food.

Hampton Court palace is lovely, if a bit expensive. If you live in South London, Brighton's not a bad drive and that's an interesting place to go for a day - there's lots of nice restaurants there too.

As wonderful as what hubby is, he drives me insane with this! :D He says that I am difficult to buy for  I suggested him using his imagination and suprising me with lovely flowers delivered to my work or somethingy like that, well, I now get them EVERY year delivered to my work, no fail, for birthday, valentines day, anniversary....!!!:rotfl:

So I have now said to him perhaps he can think of something different, like booking a restaurant of his choice and actually taking me somewhere :D

Anyway, there are lovely places to go to, perhaps suggest to him that HE can do a picnic, with a lovely picnic blanket, bubbly, lovely treats etc and take you somewhere with a lovely view! But if he is anything like my hubby, he will look at you blankly, start to sweat and shake and then ask you if you know where you can go......

Yep, that's pretty much it! I got a text saying "You still haven't told me what you want for your birthday. And remember I'm a man, don't give me a girly answer"

I don't want him to give me something really expensive, just take me somewhere and put a bit of thought into it!!

Yup! Its a cop out to say 'you are difficult to buy for' ! Give him some examples of what you would like and tell him to suprise you from that list! ;)

This was also after weeks of 'well i cant think of anything to get you, your so hard to buy for' (I dont think he appreciated the 'well a nice diamond ring would go down well' joke. oops!)

I think this is where a lot of guys / girls go wrong. It shouldn't be about how much spending one does on someone. It may be a cliche, but we have become so materialistic that we tend to measure 'true love' on how much stuff costs.

If guys don't have money (and this goes for girls too), go out your way to plan something special. A lovely picnic, walk, etc. Something which doesn't cost much, but which takes a lot of thought and time to plan. That is what is special. At least to me it is! (However, if he / she has enough money to throw in some generous shopping vouchers, always welcome! ;) )
