Haven't These Employers Got A Conscience?

Now it's getting a bit too facetious (lol).starrystarry wrote: »It's all her fault! What chance does anyone have of getting a job when there are Hungarian leggy blondes around?0

I think we're being a little mean to the OP here. I was only out of work for a short spell, and I know how demotivating I found it. Unless you've been in that situation its easy not to understand. I do think though that voluntary work could be a good option to (1) update your CV (2) re-introduce the structure of work back into your D2D routine.0

I thought the OP had gone and wasn't responding - but not to be. I had rather hoped that they had gone to a night class to learn some skill or other.... also not to be

Personally I think the OP's attitude stinks. I graduated with a masters degree from a top UK uni last year, and despite that it's still taken me a year to find permanent work. I'd worked through my undergrad degree, and even before I went to uni, but couldn't seem to get a permanent job.
Eventually, one of the temp positions I undertook led to a permanent position. Why? Because I worked by backside off to show the boss that I was worth employing. Now it's a win-win. They're happy with me as they know I'm a hard worker, use my initiative and have a good attitude, and I enjoy where I work.0 -

No-one's questioning how demotivating (and even demoralising) unemployment can be. But, honestly, walking around with a bag of King Edwards on your shoulders is really really not going to help the situation.
If there's one thing employers seek above all else, it's a good, positive, attitude. If you don't display that, then you are unlikely to get the job.
And yes, people with jobs have a lot more to be positive about than those without jobs, and therefore there is the risk that the unemployed can get caught up in a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So, if you can't make it, fake it!0
