travel insurance query

I'm travelling to the USA at the end of November and am having a hard time to get appropriate insurance as I have two pre existing conditions that are not covered in the extensive listing.

Quotes are coming in at £300 single trip and £400 annual trip. I would really appreciate if anyone knows of a credible insurer who can provide agequate cover for a lower cost.

I'm only travelling for one week.

  • Are you looking for cover for these two conditions or are you happy to have them excluded from cover? The later will mean they have almost no impact on premium but obviously means your on your own if they flare up - depending on what the conditions are dictates how sensible this would be
  • I chose this company recommended by this website for my husband. We had to pay for a separate pre-screening process, but all in all I found them to be very reasonable.

Here's the link I found them from:

  • I would like cover for these conditions - asthma and blod clot on lungs, that's why it is so high. I've been travelling for many years not realising that I should have included these seperately in my insurance. The quote is really high for one week
  • The problem is compounded heavily by going to the USA. Their medical charges are massive compared to other countries (can easily be 3x what they'd be here by private cover and often much more) plus they are prone to doing excessive investigation costs.

You turn up at the Emergency Room with breathing problems and say you've had previous clots and you'll be into the MRI quicker than you can wheeze "no" and a several thousand dollar bill for the privilege.

Shop around and see if there are better prices, see if your bank includes travel as some of these are cheap to add pre-existings to but ultimately youre looking at high prices
  • Thank you AMD, that's really helpful, will try the website later today
  • Inside Insurance,
I understand where you're coming from regarding the USA. I have tried my bank and they wont cover me. I'll shop around and hope for a beter deal. Thanks for the advice.
