Mortgage Lifetime Protection - Possible to claim back?

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to reclaim these payments?
I took out a mortgage in 2001 for approx. 25% of the property value. The bank insisted that I would only get the mortgage if I took out this type of policy although I did not have any dependants at that time. My son and daughter were out at work and not living at home.
They are to inherit everything I have anyway and I argued that repayment of the mortgage would come out of my estate. The morgage was repaid in 2008 and policy was cancelled.
Has anybody gone down this route and had any success or is it just a condition of any mortgage?

If it was a condition of lending then that is allowed and not a wrong doing.

  • I am also claiming against Nationwide for PPI on my mortgage. I was pushed into it really, not given much option, and I feel I didn't need it as I have stated above I am entitled to full company sick pay, and I also already had accident/health insurance that pays out if I am off work too.

When I came to filling in the questionnaire, I left the PPI account number blank as I didn't have it to hand at the time. I filled in the mortgage account number, and then went back to the PPI number afterwards. It turns out they have the same account number, both are with Nationwide.

Is this common for them to be linked like this, as the Questionnaire intimated they would/should differ?

Apologies, as I have posted this elsewhere, but I am quite curious, not to metion puzzled, as to if this is common practice.

This is the third time you have posted this exact query on the board. This is regarded as "spamming" and is strongly discouraged.

Does it really matter that much to you how individual Banks link their PPI to the finance attached to them? I fail to see how it can have any bearing on your complaint?

That is likely to be difficult to prove.

That looks odd - if you receive full pay when you are sick, a health insurance policy would be unlikely to pay out.

On the other hand, the PPI for the mortgage would probably meet the mortgage costs.

It would also pay out for redundancy.

Just very curious if this was the norm and hoped someone could shed some light on it.
