Christmas Tree and Kittens

My cats adore the tree, they help me whilst getting all the decs out of the box (they are more interested in the box) and yes, one of them does climb it, but that's all part of the fun for me and I would never deprive them of such fun! However, experience has taught me a few things that others have already said - tie the tree to something. I use rope and it gets wedged into a corner between 2 walls and the edge of the sofa. The rope is then tied around my corner radiator.
I put a few low hanging items/cheap baubles to try and keep them away from the higher branches!
Luckily they have not shown any interest in biting/chewing cables but lights are only ever on under my supervision (this should be the case anyway, with or without pets of course....)
Before I did the above, I had a smaller tree which used to go over regularly, but this new tree is very heavy/more stable (fake of course) and so far so good!
Then we all make a wish that all we want for Christmas is for all of us to be there together for another Christmas Day
especially as I've had one very poorly recently. Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
The first year I had kittens and a tree I came down stairs one morning to find them sat in the branches!! Ever since then they seem to play with the baubles round the bottom and use the middle pole as a scratching/stretching post but other than that they are very good with it. I think it all adds to the fun of the season!0

My wife has a lovely picture of two little grey faces peeping out from our tree about two thirds of the way up. It was taken when our youngest two were tiny kittens.0

What lovely memories this thread has bought back, the generations of cats we have had, and what fun they have had at Christmas. Trees! Wrapping paper! Boxes!
Seriously, unless you can avoid anything that will be dangerous to a chewing chasing pouncing kitten I wouldn't go for a tree.
We've a couple of young ones this year so will stick to the artificial greenery with lights that goes up over the fireplace, more greenery elsewhere and other out of reach glittery dangly things. I'm trying to pretend this was my plan all along but its been a tad stressful at home lately so I'd not even considered what to do about decorations.
