Why is Paypal payment pending?

Sold a couple of items on eBay. Both buyers have paid but the payments are not showing in my Paypal account and in eBay there is an egg timer symbol showing in the payment column and it says (when I click on the egg timer) that payment has been initiated and is being processed through Paypal. I can't see anything in Paypal to suggest when the payment might be processed or why it is delayed and it and it doesn't appear that the payments were made by echeque.
I sell fairly regularly and this is the first time that payment has not shown instantly in my Paypal account. Does anyone know why this might happen?

Check you have the correct email address on the listing. To do this, go into the listing as if you were going to 'relist' you can then scroll down and see the email address for the paypal payment to go to.0

I'm going to save this as a cut and paste as it happens a lot so I will keep the response generic.
Firstly the buyer needs to cancel the payment and wait for it to clear back to their payment source, keep them happy though as you need them on your side to sort this out- so give them time before getting them to pay again.
Explain to them that you need their paypal id so that once they have the original amount refunded you can send them a direct invoice. Once you have their paypal id raise an invoice for named goods to reassure buyer they still have full buyer protection. Send the invoice and wait for payment.
Unfortunately there is no way of getting them to pay via ebay as whatever happens it will pick up the same email used on the listing. The alternative is to give buyer your paypal id and ask them to pay direct.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
