Help!
Yesterday, when I started up my PC, I got a strange pop-up titled "synchost.exe" and with the message
Instruction at 0X745f2789 referenced memory at 0X00000000 the memory could not be "read"
There was another pop-up box telling me
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem
I then had problems with my modem which would not connect. I rang madasafish tech support and they told me that the recent windows update could have caused the modem problem and to reinstall it.
I did that and it was fine.
However, when I tried to log on later, I got similar messages and again the modem wouldn't connect me. I tried to reinstall the modem again, but the screen froze and wouldn't do it. madasafish told me that the modem has most likely died and I need another. It is a Voyager 105 if that helps.
My concern is that I think the problem might be more than the modem. I googled the error message and wonder if I have a Trojan virus? I did a scan before the computer started freezing up and it didn't identify any infections.
I am using the computer at work to post this. Can anybody offer me any ideas or help me with what I need to do? I really need my comp back working as I have work to do on it. And I really don't want to lose the photos that I haven't backed up yet (yes, I know, I was going to do it this weekend).
Please?

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."
