Sainsburys/BoS - Fifth Third Bank..help!!

Hi

I've been helping my friend reclaim ppi. One of the claims was on a Sainsbury's card where she doesn't believe she ever signed for the PPI.

We've got a letter back from Bank of Scotland today stating that, having investigated the claim, they have concluded that they didn't sell the policy, it was sold by Fifth Third Bank!! We'd never heard of them so googled it and they are an american bank!

Really random! We will go back to Bank of Scotland and ask them to clarify but just wondered if anyone knew anything about this? I can't find any links to Sainsburys at all.

    Hi and welcome

Usually you pursue the broker, if the application then was sent by post, they broker would pass details on to a lender after completion of the application.
The lender are the ones who as you know lend the money, and also take the monthly repayments.

What I suggest is to write and complain to the address of the business they had forwarded to you. (friend), and enclose a copy of the letter you received from BOS.

Feel free to wait for other views on this as well.
    Good luck.

  • Thanks - the problem is Bank of Scotland have stated they can't trace the company and referred to the FSCS.

I've search on companies house and there is no trace of them and also double checked on the FSCS website.

The only details of a Fifth Third Bank I can find relates to an American bank who don't have any banks over here and don't appear to link to Sainsbury's in any way.

Maybe the person at Bank of Scotland has gone a bit crackers with all their PPI complaints!

    Hi there

Many of us have gone the FSCS avenue and have been successful, and it should not take too long if the business are listed with the FSCS (this may not be shown on the FSCS website), and if the business are declared in default, it should not take long.

I would contact the FSCS, they will check the systems of the company, and if they have them on data base, they will arrange to send you out a complaint form.
