Critical illness miss sold?

Hi I was wondering if I could get a little advice, when my husband and I took out a mortgage approx 10 years ago we were convinced to take critical illness insurance . I was not working but my husband was . We were painted a bleak picture of if the worst happened and told how this would cover us. Well the worst sort of happened . I had a stroke but because of the circumstances of my stroke it was not clear cut and they did not pay out. I now have the immune disease lupus which has attacked several organs . I have muscle weakness down my right side but the cover does not include lupus and the home maker cover is so harsh I would pretty much have to be in a home to get any help. Never mind the fact that I can't work and take 24 tablets a day. I feel that we were sold this policy for reassurance for just these circumstances and now it is not helping. We have had to sell our house and rent . The mortgage advisor is no longer around and the insurance is with Norwich union - do you think I have a case and who with if so . Thanks

    Nothing wrong with that.

Excellent. That verifies the adviser did a correct job. Advisers are required under regulation to make you aware of risks and consequences. So, you are verifying that they have done the right thing.

That is very unfortunate but it doesnt make it mis-sold. CI cover insures you for a range of specified critical illnesses. If it is something that is not on that list then you are not covered.

Except it wasnt those circumstances. You suffered an illness not on the list.

You would complain to the mortgage adviser. However, as they dont exist and it is a pre 2005 case then you have no-one else to complain to as FSCS protection only began in 2005. Also, as much as I sympathise with your situation, you havent given any reasons for complaint.

Insurance cannot cover every eventuality. You can actually cover yourself for more than you did but it costs more. Hardly anyone covers themselves to the maximum due to budget and they choose to leave things off. A Permanent Health insurance policy was needed for your case but that would have added a premium that would probably be around 2- to 3 times more than your CI cover premium. Normally advisers make you are aware of all the options and document why you didnt select certain options.
