Santander PPI Claim for Debenhams Store Card

Options
I enquired if PPI had been applied to an old Debs store card - taken out in 1984, I paid it off in 2007 they replied saying yes it had. I filled in the claim form and mailed it to them I have now received a letter advising 'Having checked our records I can confirm that due to the length of time that you have used the account all data relating to this has been removed for our records. We are therefore unable to investigate this matter further. This is our final response.' Has anyone been in the same position What is my next step?

It is game over unless you have statements and records to show a) the PPI premiums paid and b) evidence to show there was any wrong doing in the sale.

  • Santander PLC is what was Abbey National PLC. That, in turn, was Abbey National Building Society.

1984 predates the Building Societies Act 1986 - which established the Building Societies Ombudsman and also permitted building societies to offer unsecured lending for the first time.

It therefore follows that whoever the account was orginally operated by, it was NOT Abbey National Building Society.

On that basis, Santander would not appear to have a complaint to answer.

There were GE Capital accounts, bought by Santander in 2008. They are taking responsibility for the complaints.

That is correct, Santander dealt with my GE complaint.
