I think you'll find that the plant you mean is not Symphytum uplandicum, or Russian comfrey , but Symphytum ibericum, which is a great little weed smotherer.
Russian comfrey, and its sterile variant, Bocking 14, grows 3' tall! :eek:0 -
I've seen wild areas carpeted with Common Rock Rose, which is a tough perennial shrub that grows no more than a few cm high. It looks lovely, and supports a lovely range of fungi in autumn. You can walk on it with little or no damage. But I'm not sure you could grow it at home. I have only seen it on chalk hill sides, and perhaps the soil type and rabbits are essential. It is possible the wild one is a different growth form from the one you buy in garden centres, maybe more low growing.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
