Holiday paid on CC, Hospital means i can't go

Thanks for all the replies, appreciated.
I am not recovered and there was no chance of going on holiday, we had paid on the CC to give us some cover.Have you asked Homeseasons if you can re-arrange holiday for another date?
Hoseasons stated they could not rearrange or defer and that it would be 100% - Tbh it's not their fault but i can say with some certainty we won't be using them again.
I think we will have to take it on the chin and chalk it to experience - i have not checked with the CC by phone but i will but i suspect the answer will be as written here. We never took travel insurance since the value was low and we had not expected any barriers ( i guess no one ever does though!).
Never mind these things happen, good news is that i am getting better at least.
Once again, thanks all.0 -

Definitely try with Hoseasons again - I'd personally make an official complaint. Regardless of what their T&Cs say, it's awful customer service to not even offer a discount on a future stay given the circumstances behind you not going.
They have no legal obligation to but as you've pointed out, you will now never use them again because of it - it's pretty poor business practice!0 -

Totally agree, we thought that given circumstances and that we could provide proof they might consider a date change, even in a low use date range but no, nothing. In the end it will be their loss since if anyone asks me how my holiday was i will happily advise not to use hoseasons.0 -
Hi mum24boys, nice to hear you are getting better.

A point for future reference as a few have mentioned you are not covered under the credit card as no one defaulted, but also if you book a none package holiday say abroad where you put individual items (travel & hotel) together whether via on-line site like Expedia or a high street Travel Agent then you are also not covered. It seems that only full package holidays are protected (we found that to almost our cost), a few years ago when we could not fly due to the Ash Cloud. Luckily we were able to claim the costs back from the UK - America - UK flights as they could not fly us due to the closed airspace. But when it came to the other elements like the two USA Hotels & Internal Flights Expedia would not refund, the hotels would not refund (the rooms were sold by a third party), the internal airline only gave us a few £'s (literally) tax back and the Credit card did not cover it as the Hotels/Airline & Expedia did not default.
Initially the insurance said 'Acts of Nature' were not covered but then some months later after many sleepless nights, emails. phone calls & letters they came good (we stood to lose £6,500).
The following year I asked travel agent if we would be any more covered if we booked through them and were told no, not unless it was a package holiday. So we now ensure we take out an insurance that covers for 'Acts of Nature'.
We did not insure for the cottage as it was not a great amount (a little more than your holiday) as you hope local movements will all go to plan (just had a phone call from the people that rent the cottage so who knows they might see fit to refund a few £'s).
Our daughter was worried last night (she was going with us a few years ago as the trip was a Birthday gift for her) as she goes on Honeymoon on the 12th, flying to Manhattan for a few days , before flying on to Cancun. And they are staying a stones throw from the broken/dangerous crane :eek:, hopefully all will be well by the time they come to travel (note to self do not travel with her she is a jinx
). Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
@Meadows - WOW, thankfully you got it back - like you say double, triple and then check again it seems...
I am happy to learn the lesson for only £150, for £6500 eeeek0 -
I don't necessarily think you are wrong to go without insurance.
Going abroad I would always take insurance for medical cover regardless of the holiday cost, but in the UK where we have access to the NHS I'm not sure I would bother for a low cost holiday and would probably take the chance jsut like you. So don't beat yourself up too much as I think many of us would do the same.0
