British Gas - Fee Gas Safety Certificate?

Apologies for this, but I only caught the end of an ad yesterday as I was doing something else (always the way!)
I saw the tail end of a British Gas ad, whcih mentioned something about free Gas Safety Certificates for landlords up until the start of Dec?
I have tried googling it, but wondered if anyone knew anything here - as a landlord of a tenanted property, I need a new annual Gas Safety Certificate for the beginning of December and tried to remember this ad..
I'm pretty sure it can't be free? can it?
If not i'll go back to scouring for the cheapest gas safety test..

BG do have a "free" CP12 offer but only if you sign up to one of their maintenance packages.
If you are looking elsewhere do check that the HE is registered with the Gas Safe Register - a really cheap price may mean an unregistered HE. Don't take their word for it - you can check online with Gas Safe itself0 -
Google 'british gas landlords maintenance contract' and you'll see the strings attached- it comes free as a promo with an annual maintenance contract; claimed in the ad to be 'from £75' but when I enquired 6 months ago it was a lot more.
I'd inherited BG cover on a dodgy old boiler on a newly purchased Buy to Let, and as I know they respond fast, and the boiler was on its last legs, I decided to keep it on contract, on their 'repair and cover' scheme; £99 one-off plus about £15-20 per month. I knew they are expensive. They're also prompt and efficient -but not in that case 'effective' in that becuse they'd had it on continuous cover they tried hard to fix it; 'try' being the operative word.
But one week and six - yes six -visits later, by which time I'd probably had twice the value of the boiler in terms of cost of parts & their (high) call out rates, they gave up, and gave me all my money back, within the constraints of the contract which promised to fix, but didn't permit replacement- only repairs.
So I got an independent contactor to replace it in three hours for less than £2k. I guess there's a moral there about bureaucracy...0 -
In my experience, you can get a better deal on a maintenance agreement with a good reliable local Heating Engineer0

Why not check the BG website?

You do get a better deal from your own well truseted and well used plumber however If we have a breakdown or boiler problem Our plumber comes out if it is something serious like PCB board or whatever he says to us not worth you getting the bits and me call british gas for their one off fix price which includes up to 3 major parts .So its just a case of getting a good guy who looks after you0
