Assured Shorthold Tenancy - advice?

If an assured shorthold tenancy is for a stated period of 6 calendar months, but doesn't explicitly state the rolling 'two month' ongoing tenancy arrangements after that and the notice periods etc - will they still apply in practice, or will the agreement just stop at the end of the six months??
My letting agent has been messing me around with rental levels, fees etc and I am a bit concerned that the contract doesn't cover what it needs to.
Can anyone advise me?

The day after the end of a fixed term AST, if tenant has not moved out/given notice, a Statutory Periodic Tenancy automatically arises. Notice period on an SPT is 1 month from the tenant, and 2 month's notice seeking possession from the LL.
Are you the tenant or landlord in this scenario?
There is no need for the agent to charge/tenant to pay any fees at all for an SPT, as there is no work necessary to achieve it - all the standard terms and conditions in the original AST continue, other than notice arrangements as stated above.
Obviously, if tenant wants security and LL wishes to offer another fixed term, they can agree with the tenant to sign another agreement, but there is no obligation on the tenant to accept.0 -

When you move in see if your landlords name and address areon your agreement if not then ask for them you may be able to negotiate directly with your landlord at the end of the fixed term0

Good point Whalster; I use agents to find, but manage (and extend) myself thereafter as a LL, and once an agent has come back looking for more cash and asking if my tenant has stayed off the end of the original AST. So while you won't know what contract the LL has signed with the agent, it's good to give them the option of respecting you for saving them several hundred quid which they'd pay if the agent renews0
