If I try to hack my Toshiba RD-XS24 could it be damaged in any way?

Tried my old one, but could not find the codes.
It should be fairly safe, but end of the day no on really knows what is in the firmware except the developers, or if the hack is firmware version dependant.
Here is what to do http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/toshiba-rd-xs24/6185 but some say that it does not work.0
