.co.uk domain owners stand to lose out under Nominet's proposal

irrespective if you buy or have bought a [name].co.uk, you should have bought the more valuable [name].com anyway as part of your e-com strategy.0

I think you miss the point. .co.uk defines a UK address and as it stood would be the only domain extension for the UK. This now appears not so.
On top of that the way they are looking to generate money out of this is not acceptable and even more ludicrous that they are stating that they are safer than a .co.uk.
I think it is poor
Sadly, .co.uk has never referred to a UK business, which has led to many people trusting sites that aren't reliable.0 -
There's loads of Chinese websites, using dot co dot uk web addresses, that sell counterfeit goods. It's very misleading for many web shoppers so why doesn't Nominet do something about these rogue traders by restricting the use of these domains to UK residents only?0

All that has happened is that instead of Nominet limiting the second level domain to a small defined range they have opened it up (the same as the vast majority of countries) to everybody. The .uk TLD has been an anomaly in the the domain name world by Nominet insisting that you could only purchase a domain name at the third level using one of the specific second level domains available to non-specialist areasThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. My personal website ends in .co.uk and I'm not a business...0
