Will ebay refund my postage for a faulty item i received

I bought a new builders square but when it turned up it was damaged and it looked like it has been stored some where damp, so i've contacted the seller and they have asked me to send them some pictures as there was no damage when the item left them. I have sent them pictures and now they haven't replied so if i open a ebay dispute will ebay refund me for being out of pocket.

  • They will refund your original payment - item price + p&p if and when you win the case.

They cant force the seller to give you the return postage though.

If they're saying things like 'it was OK when it left me' then it is very doubtful they will pay return postage, and eBay will not force them.

Obviously that can be reflected in feedback.

Open a INAD case & wait a while till you can escalate it & eBay will email you a Parcelforce label to return the item via the PO & get your refund.

Do not leave any feedback till after the case is finalised

Sorry to question you but if i want to send the item back for a replacement (if the seller has a replacement) will ebay email me a parcelforce label as i know paypal doesn't and i thought ebay owns paypal.

Ebay do give labels or vouchers for postage. But this is not a policy decision, more an adhoc offer. Do not bank on getting anything from them.

eBay will only give out labels if you go to dispute and if the seller does not respond. They don't also enforce the sending out of a replacement - they really can't micromanage to that degree as the seller might not have a replacement. If you go through an eBay dispute the most you will get is a refund of the original payment; you will have to negotiate a replacement with the seller.
