Just seen this in email looks good cashback is tiered but there is no annual fee, similar i think to Capital One Aspire.

Pretty good in the first year but would be significantly less than (for example) my Halifax cashback card for years 2+ (average £18k annual spend and average £240-£270/year cashback at the moment). I shopped around looking to better it (not just for the first year) but couldn't find any cashback cards that were worth switching to. Currently trying Amex Gold for a year to see how many points I can tot up.0

So it is the original Amex Platinum Credit Card (before the £25 annual fee) or have I missed something?0

It's a shame I don't earn enough for the card, I also assume you need to have years and years of a stonking credit history to stand a chance of one of these. They seem like "high flier" kinds of products.Oh, you wee bazza!0

Amex are stricter than other lenders in who they offer lending to but you dont need to have a years of a stonking history either.
Once you are in the fold then its very much about being a high spender at the right sorts of places and activities to move up (if your aim is to try and get the Centurion card

The original Amex Platinum credit card (no fee) paid 1.5% cashback after £10,000 spend. This one offers 1.25% cashback after £7,500 spend.0 -
Now, this is a card I would get - no annual fee.
The other one is a rip off.0 -

Maestro, I know when I got my Amex card they took both mine and my wife's salary into account than just the individual card holder's salary.
So if you have a partner you want to add on the card this may allow you to hit the salary limit? Just a thought!0 -
when i worked at Ame, the Platinum (charge) card was seen as a status symbol.. for supposed high rollers, annual fee was £300 or so.. how times have changed!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
Going by the posts on here and Amex's tighter acceptance criteria, it is still considered something of a status symbol.
Up to people to decide if they agree.0
