eBay/Paypal/Debt Problem

I sold an expensive item on eBay which was collected. I now understand this was unwise. However, Paypal are now trying to enforce a payment reversal due to irregularities they claim to have spotted. However, the buyer has not requested a payment reversal and , in fact, failed to respond to Paypal's request for information.

If I take my case to the Financial Ombudsman, and receive a ruling in my favour, would this help if the debt collection agency now chasing me, (that paypal is using) takes me to court?

Thanks,

To start with only Paypal can take you to court. Before taking a case to the Ombudsman you need to contact Paypal (preferably in writing) and see what they say.

It all depends on what the reversal is for.

They are unlikely to take you to court, but you'd be wise to get advice if it's a substantial sum.

Hi, thank you for the reply.

It is for around £175 outstanding, with £50 being 'pre-paid' via Paypal seizing money in my account from other eBay sales.

I have been contacted by iQor recovery services about this, but have not done anything since being contacted by letter.

I understand I should perhaps send them a letter saying I do not acknowledge this debt and request a CCA from them?

Paypal have dismissed my appeal on their reversal decision, despite me providing a police report on the matter. They say that this is final and that the only further 'Paypal-related' contact I can have is with them in writing to the USA.

The reversal was for non-response by the buyer to the case that Paypal opened.

Even by paypal standards - this sounds wierd.

The buyer buys phone and is happy - but paypal say your most give the money back.

What am i missing? Did the buyer use someone elses account?

What police report? If nothing went wrong with the sale - why were the police involved? All sounds a bit odd.

As for the debt collectors - most on here say they are full of hot hair. Probable because ebay/paypal don't want their dodgey practices getting attention.

The buyer has not complained about anything and has instead, remained silent during the investigation by Paypal. That is the reason given for the reversing of the payment - due to non-response of the buyer.

Someone used the account - however, the person who collected the item from me was not the buyer, but someone known to the buyer.

However, the buyer did not open an 'unauthorised transaction case' - Paypal did, and Paypal returned the funds due to non-response. I was not reimbursed, due to the item being collected and hence not eligible for Seller Protection.

The thing is, the buyer has not done anything wrong to me - only Paypal have; they have returned the funds due to not getting a reply from the buyer.
