Moved into new house, Aga not working, what to do?

Hi
I have just moved onto a new house and it has an Aga. The seller showed it to me whan I viewed. The house has been empty for about 3 months prior to me moving in and now the Aga isn't working, the pilot gas lights but the main burner does not come on; I have followed the lighting instructions exactly. Am I right in thinking that I have a 7 day period in which to claim against such a fault from the seller?
Thanks

You bought a house that had an aga?

Are you sure you working it correctly? Most likely needs something. Not sure about any 7 days thing.

I'm not sure its working correctly as I have followed the lighting instructions and only the pilot light comes on, not the maim burner. Should the seller have left it in a servicable, working condition?

But perhaps the appliance was working three months ago and the problem has developed since? I don't quite see how you would prove otherwise?

Do you have the instruction manual for your model? If not you might try the internet - for example http://www.rayburn-web.co.uk/Prodin/Aga%20current%20cookers/Aga%20Gas%202%20and%204%20oven%20OF/Aga%20GC%20GE%20OF%20aims%20user%2003-10%20eopi%20515931.pdf

I would have thought it would have been sensible to have the appliance serviced by a qualified engineer before attempting to use it?

What did the vendor state on the Sellers Information Form?
Did you have it checked / tested prior to exchange?

I am in England but just moved from Scotland, where I am sure there was a 7 day post sale claim period for items not working.

Correct for a purchase in Scotland, not necessarily for E&W

Unless it's a new house or the vendor specifically said in writing that the aga was in working order then I don't think there is much you can do - it's your responsibility to check these things before you buy the house.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, my property related posts refer to England & Wales. Please make sure you state if you are discussing Scotland or elsewhere as laws differ.

When was it last services and did you ask for any assurances or certificates as part of the conveyancing? Did your surveyor recommend getting the gas/ AGA checked?
