Two payments in one month?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone can help me. I'm currently paying off my credit card, its not much, but I'm still paying in installments.

Anyway, I had a statement come through and was asked to make the minimum payment by the 5th October which I did. I have had a statement come through this afternoon, thanking me for my last payment but at the same time asking me to make my next minimum payment by the 29th October. Thats Today!

So I've gone online and paid, although not sure if it will arrive late or not. Could they charge me for this? I've never been asked for a payment twice in one month.

Thanks

    Maybe if it`s every 28 days and it`s a 5 week month?

You'll need to contact them to ask what's up and, if you need that, to delay the next payment until the new month. It won't surprise them that two payments in one month would be a problem for some people.

But 4 weeks/28 days from the 5th October would be the 2nd of November, not the 29th October.

You need to keep an eye on TWO dates, the Statement Date (when purchases get billed to the following month's statement) and the Payment Date, which is usually when - if you make no payment that month, you get hit with a non-payment fee.

Your statement will provide all the relevant info - a 4-week month would be unusual, but not impossible - as this means you'll get 13 statements a year, and have to make that many payments.

A few things spring to mind.

Firstly, is it a credit card account and not a catalogue account? Many of your previous posts have been about very.co.uk who operate a four-weekly, rather than monthly, billing cycle. This means that generally customers receive 13 statements a year rather than 12 and two payments will be due during the same month once every year.

If your last payment was due on 5th October the next statement would probably have been produced the following week. Have you received it via the post or did you view it online? It's obviously late. I wonder where it's been.

Statements tend to have all sorts of dates on them: 'pay by,' 'due', 'your next statement will be produced on,' etc. Are the two dates you've mentioned of the same type?

The 5th October is 25 days ago, which is the usual time between statement date and payment due date.
  • I don't know if they can do it legally - we haven't seen the actual statements - but phone them up and explain what has happened. At least that way you probably won't get a late payment charge and they will be able to explain the payment dates.
