ebay has taken all my paypal money :(

A few weeks ago I sold an item to an overseas bidder, The bidder was known professionally by my DS so I wasnt worried, although I did get proof of postage. We moved house this weekend and all our stuff has gone into storage for 6 weeks. As it had been a few weeks since the item was sent I was happy that the item had arrived as I hadnt heard anything, so I stored the p.o.p. in my files in the unit. Today the buyer says he never got the item and ebay have taken all the funds he paid from my paypal account! I did not know they could do that. I feel like its a theft. I havent even had time to respond to the claim. What can I do? It took weeks to pack the unit, I cannot even begin to think how to unpack it all.

I could cry.:(

          • You will have to claim from Royal Mail, and for that you will need the PoP I'm afraid.

It doesn't actually help but Paypal would have notified you that a claim was open and there was time to respond. However, without proof of delivery you could not have defended a claim anyway so would still have had to refund.

One thing though, check the dispute history as this might not be closed yet- the money is held pending any decision and you may still have a chance to 'agree' the refund and get the dispute closed which will mean you won't get a seller strike for a case on your dashboard.

Then just use your POP to claim back the loss from RM, assuming item was eligible and below the threshold. If you are not going to be able to claim for a while then make sure you take hard copies of all the relevant ebay pages and paypal transaction page in case any of it gets archived meanwhile.
