Economy 7 Meter

We recently tried to switch provider using the uswitch website.
everything went through and we recieved confirmation that our next bill would be from the new provider (first energy)
however we then recieved an email stating that we couldnt switch as we had a dual tarrif meter.
we called EON who confirmed that we did have an economy 7 meter but it was operating on a normal tarrif.(we were unaware as we have only been in the house 1 year and the previous owners had had it installed)
we were offerred a different tarrif by EON but nowhere near as good as first energy, and we would have to be tied in for another period.
does anyone know if we can skle for the Economy 7 meter to be taken out ?
obvioulsy time is passing and the cheap deals with gurentees will dissapear soon ..
any help / advice is welcome
thanks

Yes, you can request the meter to be exchanged for a single rate one if that is what you really want.Greg_sally wrote: »We recently tried to switch provider using the uswitch website.

Hi Greg
As Wywth says, it's certainly possible to replace the Economy 7 with a single rate, unrestricted meter. The charge for this is currently £51.06.
Usually, there's no need to do this as we can charge Economy 7 on a single rate tariff. All we do is add the day and night readings together and charge as one rate. No need to change the meter.
Can't speak for other suppliers, though.
Depending on the area, you need to use approx 40 to 55 per cent of electricity during the off peak times to make Economy 7 beneficial. If you're not using this amount of electricity at night, you're probably better off with a single rate tariff.
Hope this helps.
