House & contents insurance question

We are just competing a self-build, and will probably insure the building with the company that did our site insurance - it makes certain issues easier.
My previous experience is that insuring buildings & contents together is convenient, so I have asked for a contents quote. However, I note that they specifically exclude damage caused by mould & mildew (unlikely in our nice new house!) which our current insurers don't. Is this becoming standard?

Comments

  • It isnt normal to explicitly call it out however most policies are specified risks only and mould/ mildew is unlikely to be covered under most with the possible exception of escape of water.

The most common policies only specify perils such as fire, theft, flood, accidental damage etc

Does your current policy exclude gradually operating causes? That is possible terminology for mould and mildew.
