Getting Excess Grout Off Tiles

My bathroom tiles have hardened dryed-on grout smeared and smudged all over them (from previous owners - not me!) and no amount of scrubbing gets it off. This is across the tiles themselves, so I assume whoever installed them forgot to wipe them down when they were done.

I know you can get a tool to remove grout from between the tiles, but is there any way of getting it off the actual tile fronts? I'm afraid to scrape too hard in case I crack or chip them.

Thanks
For everything else, there's MSE :T

  • not me!) OK I believe you,

Soak the tiles first ! use a stanley blade, (not the knife ) carefully! keep wetting. Try a small area first ! the problem you will have is the joints, you might have to use a grout remover for the joints, and possibly re-grout some of the joints.
