Scottish Power Undercharging???

I moved to Scottish Power a few months back, I did the usual shopping around via the compare sites so had a good idea what the monthly charge would be and this was the same amount that was in my agreement with them. However 2 payments down the line they're taking £40 less, I queried this with them as I don't want to be left with a hefty bill at the end of the year and was told when they put in the data this is what came up and that it will be reassessed further down the line. I do submit my readings on the first of each month and have decided to put the difference in charges to 'one side' but I'm wondering if this has this happened to anyone else and the lesser amount is right?

Price per kWh* usage.
Do you have records of how much you used last year?0 -

Yes, I got my figures from my eon statement saying how much I'd used in the year and applied the KWh use for the whole year for both electric and gas on a dual fuel tariff.
The agreement they sent out to me has the correct usage on it and the same price I'd got from USwitch and Energyhelpline, I can't understand the large drop in cost when I look at my direct debits, I don't want a near £500 shortfall at the end of the year :eek:0 -

Odd.
I guess find the highest interest savings account you can find, and put it aside in that.
Even though it won't earn much.
Paying down debt on a credit card by 500 would also be a good use of the money.
(assuming you use the savings to help to clear the debt)0 -

I sent an email to the address you've quoted which is where I was told it was right, how do I make sure its you who gets it?0 -
Did they change your Direct Debit amount? If so, you have the power to change it back to what it was and if you are using less energy, you will end up in credit. Far better to end up in credit than owing £££'s further down the line0

They didn't change it they just put it in at the wrong amount, I've only made two payments. I think I may have the option to make overpayments via their website so I may just do that

Definitely advisable with the coldest months yet to come. You don't want to come out in spring in debt.0 -
