Travel Insurance - Tour rejoining.

Hello;

I am due to go on a tour of Vietnam in January and naturally would not go without insurance.

I have upgraded worldwide cover via my Nationwide Flexaccount and this seems comparable to most standalone policies by the big providers (rather than some of the limited credit card/bank account covers).

However, my tour company says that "You must be adequately insured for medical, hospital, baggage and personal expenses, any necessary extra travel (rejoining tour or repatriation)".

I imagine this to mean where a relatively minor injury needs tending to, but this means missing the bus etc onwards, having those costs paid for making your own way. Makes sense!

However, I cannot find a policy out there that expressly covers this kind of thing.

Nationwide cover repatriation, and the wording they use is
"Part One: Emergency Medical Expenses Abroad

We will pay up to £10,000,000 per insured person towards emergency medical, surgical or hospital treatment which is required whilst you are on a
journey (dental limit £500 for relief of immediate pain only).
We will also provide cover for:
1. Additional travel expenses needed to return you to the UK or the Channel Islands on the advice of our medical adviser.
2. Extra accommodation if the length of your journey is extended due to your stay in hospital.

3. Up to £2,500 towards the cost of your funeral or cremation in the country in which death occurs."
(plus some other bits not relevant here).

I have tried to search for tour insurance, rejoining cover etc and cannot find this - does anyone know of policies that expressly cover this?

Interesting - never come across this.

Some have a wording similar to point 1 you quoted but one I looked at doesn't say 'to return to the UK'. It just says additional travel expenses incurred.

The scenario you described would also apply to any sort of escorted tours, cruises etc..

Have you asked your tour company if they provide travel insurance? Presumably they do, if they require the cover.
