Weekend break to London

Looking to take the better half away for a long 4 day 3 night break in London in October. Does anyone have any advice of possible locations to stay? I'm not looking for anything posh at all as it will only be really used as a base as we go round the sites.
Looking to travel from the "north" via train so will be looking to get some cheap returns as soon as they are available im guessing booking early would be best?

We booked a hotel and train with Superbreak. The hotel was £300 for 3 nights B and B for the 2 of us (but there were cheaper ones) and the train was just £29 return from Manchester to Euston.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

Depends on what you want to do, where you want to be based?
We (2 adults + 2 kids) always stay at the Premier Travel Inn, London County Hall. Eat your breakfast and watch the London Eye go round in your front garden, right on the South Bank of The thames.
2 nights for £198 for 4 of us, should be cheaper for 2?
If you want to be based at Covent Garden right on the pulse, then expect to pay loads more.0 -
We have just been for a weekend in London and stayed in the Orchard Hotel in Sussex Gardens which is about half a mile from Park Lane/Oxford Street and within walking distance of pretty much most of the attractions. Its not posh, as like you, all we wanted to do was sleep there, but it's clean and a great location. We paid £90 for a family of four, B&B, but I think couples start at about £60 (per room, not per person). We booked with Laterooms.com who were the cheapest. Would definitely stay there again.0

Looking on Trip advisor, The Bay tree House B&B looks worth a try.
You may be able to get a national express funfare, depending on where you are coming from too....Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
