Got cheque that I need to cash ASAP, it is an Insurance Cheque for £800.
Do any banks express cheques anymore or if not what are my opitions and the rough costs involved please.
Thanks

They never express cleared them.
They still have a special clearance option that costs around £12 and gives confirmed clearance. It can be faster but is by no means guaranteed to be.
Pay c15% of the value to a local pawn broker / jeweller type place (e.g. Albermarle and Bond) and you'll get the rest of the money same day.
Or just deposit today and wait until Friday. Or ask your bank for an overdraft.0 -
You can ask for special clearance on the cheque at bank0

Yes but as first response to this thread has explained it is merely a service to make sure the cheque won't bounce. It does not let you have the money any sooner than going round the clearing cycle.0 -

The way we used to do it years ago generally did. We called the paying bank the next day and if the they'd got it and answer was affirmative we'd credit them from a suspense account.0
