Am I missing something? npower tarrif
Ok, I am going to make this simple, I don't understand it so I hope someone can tell me whether I am missing a trick.
I have been with Scottish power since October 2011, on their fixed tarrif until December 2012. I have been paying £80 for dual fuel and have just broken even, so no extra to pay. I used roughly 3000kwh electricity and 2000kwh gas over the year and I though at times we were quite wasteful.
But as Scottish power just informed me that they are raising their prices I went online in search of a better deal, entered my annual usage and top of the list came npower's Online Energy E7 fixed till January 2014. Their estimate is based on an annual usage of 6000kwh electricity and 3000kwh gas. and I will pay £68 a month for this!!!!
So, basically what this means is, I can use twice as much electricity and half as much gas in one year and pay £12 LESS a month!!! This sounds too good to be true.
Am I missing something? They do say this tarriff is available to new customers only. I tried to ring them on Saturday but there was a problem with their system so they couldn't talk to me. I will ring them later this evening. I just wanted to know whether there is some hidden agenda here or a trick I have missed. Thanks

I think you probably mean 20,000 kWh of gas per year.
2000 kWh of gas is very small and if correct you should be well in credit having paid £960 for the year.
Use your actual consumption figures in a comparison site to get the results applicable to you0 -
Is this after calorific value calculation?
My gas meter definitely reads 4 digits, so it can't be 20,000. I will check again to make sure though.
If you've only got a 4 digit gas meter, it sounds like an old imperial meter and 2000 metered units would relate to about 66,000 kWh.
That being the case, you probably owe the existing supplier lots of money!
You sure it's not 200 metered units? :huh:0 -
You need to convert your meter units into kWh. That's what you are charged based upon, and what the comparison sites need to know

I keep a tap on my usage on Scottish power website by entering the meter reading regularly. It then calculates how much I am in debit or credit. I did this at the weekend and I am evens now. I'd imagine that their system converts my meter reading and the debit/credit output they report is actual?
Don't scare me!0 -

I don't mean to scare you, but I would urge you to check your meter and how your consumption is being calculated

If you think it's wrong, I would suggest you contact your supplier without delay.0 -
Thanks for that. I have just checked my account on Scottish power you are right, my usage is more like 20,000. This is already converted so I am not in debt. My current balance is based on the converted values.0
