There is not that much information about how and when this is coming to force.
All the people that it affects do not know that they will have to fill in a self assessment tax return etcYear 2019 (1,700/£17000mortgage repayment)Overall mortgage (71,400/165568) (44
.1%) (42/100) payments made. Total paid 2019 year £1,700

do you think it should be simply cut off at a certain salary (i.e. creating a tax rate of over 100%) or just phased out at a certain figure like the current plan?
Isn't the universal credit meant to simplify the benefits system and doesn't it take into account the number of children?
Why not get rid of CB altogether and incorporate it into UC?0 -

Aren't you losing your normal eloquence? I'm surprised you didn't put it another way......
For example ".... middle class scum scrounging CB to top up their £98K income.... should be strung up.... the only language they understand.... I'm so sick of this scum begging brigade.... some of them are public sector workers...."0 -

Please stop trying to deflect attention from the fact that you are benefit claiming scum.0 -

basically the issue is that benefits for all, like child allowance, whilst expensive and go to the undeserving, do not creat a disincentive to work
means tested benefits whilst costing a lot less, do of course create disincentives to work.0 -

actually, i'm not. my wife (who earns £0.00) claims the benefit.
I on the other hand, will be taxed for a benefit I do not claim.
which is another of my issues with this farce. the first is that a family on £60k with one earner and say, three kids will get nothing - whilst a family on £98k with one kid will get it. that is unfair, whichever way you look at it.
however, the real issue - the real "human rights" issue is that one party is taxed for a benefit they don't even claim. it is just not right at all.
if they want to make that "right" then let it flow both ways and allow the higher rate payer to use the other "partners" tax free allowance.
the whole thing is a disgrace.0 -
you don't claim housing benefit either (well i presume you don't but after the CB relevations, who knows to what extent your benefit claiming stretches) but you are taxed for it, i don't see what the difference is really.
given your posting history, i thought you would be happy about any cut in benefits, but it seems you don't like cuts when they affect you. quelle suprise.0 -
I would be quite happy for CB to be cut entirely. What I don't like is:
(a) people on higher incomes getting a benefit that people on lower incomes are prohibited to collect
(b) a party being taxed for a benefit they don't even claim
If the Govt said (a) we are stopping all CB or (b) we are stopping all CB for HOUSEHOLDS with an income over £60k or (c) we are allowing a family tax free limit - which is double the single persons - then I would not have any issue.
all three of my ideas are perfectly fair.0 -
all i can hear is "i want my benefits back waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh"0
