service indicator reset on bmw mini cooper?
Options
Hi could anyone help? now my free servicing package is finished i am hoping to get the oil changes done myself, not go back to the dealer. however i know that soon the service indicator light will flash on the dash soon.
anybody know a way of resetting it without buying a tool or implement?
checked archives here and linked through to an article from the telegraph which refers to a sequence, for all BMWs, roughly;
press and hold trip button in (ign off)
turn ign key to position 1
display will light 'test 01'
keep button pressed until 'reset' flashes
release trip button then press again
display then changes to 'inspection'.
surely this will leave me back at square one? do i finish this sequence at reset?
anyone tried this?
sorry a lot of questions I hope somebody out there might know? dont know much about cars but I cant face spending crazy money at the garage.
any help gratefully appreciated

Press and hold the trip odometer button.
Insert car key and turn it to the first position.
Watch for the word "RESET" to appear on the Odometer indicator.
Release the trip odometer button, then press & hold it again.
Wait for the "RESET" message to flash.
Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
The Service interval is now reset to 10,000 miles:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Does anyone have an update to this please? It is a 'push-in' type key on the Cooper, so you cannot turn the key to position 1. I tried the sequence,as above, but it doesn't work! Does it need an electronic device to reset it ?0
