feeling sorry for myself....

I do look at this forum a lot as it has been a huge support to me but reading how people deal with thier debts has highlighted what seems to be huge descrepencies.

I have read about people who are more in debt than me and have been able to do DMP's via CCCS etc.

CCCS and Payplan turned me down on the basis of thier figures eg. £36 a month for haircuts, £480 for shopping. When I don't spend that at all.

I have read about people in more debt than me having payments of £5 a month or less accepted by creditors.

I have offered my creditors £10 a month and HSBC, Abbey and Mint have all since declined this offer - I have not heard from the others yet. I sent them all an SOA so they know the score.

I don't understand why it's different for people. Does it depend on who answers the phone/ letters and if they are having a bad day or not?

I'm just interetsed to know.

    Hey olivetrees *hugs*

I'm doing a self dmp so hopefully I can give you a hand.

I can see why they don't like the hair figure, how many of you is this for? Same with the food - who is in your household?

As for the offers, one of the companies (I forget which) will only do it if there is £100 to service the debts, the other works on percentages from what I can work out.

Have you worked out pro-rata payments for them all? And sent them all copies of your budget?

If you want any help at all going it alone, just ask :)

'Tis scary being in debt, I'm in there with you.
Loads of people on here giving good info - just keep looking for advice.
    You'll get sorted. xxxx

Edit: Call/visit your local CAB. Big help from them - well was for me.
:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing

    Thanks for your replies

I don't understand pro ratapayments. I thought I had to offer all creditors the same amount.

    and i'm rubbish at maths!

    Hi Olive,

One of the reasons that we advise going through CCCS or PAYPLAN is that creditors will, generally, take more notice of letters from these charities than they will with letters from individuals.
However, I understand your problem, so if you are 'going it alone', then why not look at the national debtline website: http://nationaldebtline.co.uk
They have some excellent template letters, that you could use.
    All the best

    Hi Rog2

Thanks for that - I did try going it alone but chickend out and have ended up with Myvesta. That kicks in on 28th April but they haven't said anything about prorata payments - I just stated that I would pay all my creditors £10.

Perhaps i'll give them a call tomorrow - this makes my head hurt

DO that Olive - I have heard good reports about Myvesta - they should clarify things for you.

Do you not have to pay Myvesta a fee though?
Could you not go to your local CAB?

We're doing a self admin CCCS plan and our responses from different loan companies, banks and credit cards has varied enormously.

We had really brilliant service from Egg who gave us 0% for the life of the balance. Halifax gave us 0% for 6mths with a review at that point but then were totally reasonable.

However, HSBC, Marbles and Barclays were all just terrible. They wouldn't respond to our letters or agree to our payments. I think a lot depends on who you borrowed with as to how they react to your letters.

    Hi beanielou

Myvesta is free unless you want to make a donation. I have not been charged a thing.

I tried 3 organisations and they all said the same thing - they couldn't help - so I really couldn't cope with repeating myself again and I could do the Myvesta thing on line so it was ever so easy.

I know that the CAB's are ever so busy so I didn't approach them, as I had also spent a month dealing with the other organisations so couldn't waste any more time. I also thought that they would have the same attitude as the other organisations I contacted
