Next doors dog has been barking for hours. It barks all the time, but they have gone out today and it has not stopped.
It is a spaniel, that I have never seen walked in the 3 years they have lived here. I have mentioned the consent barking, but they just laugh if off with ' yeah, she can be a bit yappy'
(We can't even sit in our own garden)
I really don't know what to do. I am a single parent with 2 children, and they are a couple with 4 grown sons.
I do not feel overly intimidated by them, but I really don't want to make any trouble.
If I report it to the RSPCA they will surely know it is me as their other neighbour is deaf.
I am at my whits end

Environmental health, make a noise complaint.
Poor dog, sadly the RSPCA probably wouldn't be able to do anything as not walking your dog isn't illegal or considered to be cruelty, but its a rotten way to treat an animal.0 -
You could say that someone knocked on your door asking if it was your dog barking and that they were going to report it to the RSPCA.. (provided the neighbours had been out ) might nudge them into doing something about it..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Thanks tanith. I never thought of that. Will pop round there tomorrow.
Yes they are definitely all out. No cars and no lights on.0 -
Do they know it barks when they go out ?
Perhaps they don't and laugh it off cos they only know of the barks when they are at home.
I don't know if my dog barks when we are out, would hope someone told me if he does though.0 -

I bet you walk your dog though, so you probably care about it.
Dogs that are never walked have to make their own entertainment and that's what the barking's often about.0 -

It barks so much when they are in, they must know it barks when they are out.
Which it still is.0 -

True, he wasn't walked the other day as he hadn't been well ( ate something dodge and got the runs) and the next morning he was WILD !! I dread to think what he would be like if he wasn't walked regularly!!0 -
RSPCA Five Freedoms may cover something in terms of "freedom from distress" if the dog is suffering separation anxiety and constantly being left.
You may have better success with Environmental Health going down the noise complaint route though, especially if it is regularly happening. I would say note down the times and duration of the barking every time it happens.0 -
Environmental Health, that is what you pay council tax for.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
