Bait'n'Switch & agression from Sainsburys

So, I saw a 50% champagne offer on MSE from Sainsburys home delivery - jumped through the hoops to attempt the "valued" offering. Waited in on a Sunday for the delivery time and the delivery van arrives - Sorry the item has been substituted for Sainsburys champagne - not 50% discounted and not the same standard of product - a conversation ensues, I explain this is the third time that an offer has been made with Sainsburys selling short on promises. Anyone else fed up with this obvious Bait & Switch tactic?

I would suspect these sell out very quickly. If you want to get an offer like this then your best bet is to go to the store yourself asap.

For home deliveries they only pick the items when its due to be delivered so what was in stock at point of order can be out of stock at collection.

Exactly right,or the item may not be stocked by that store.I was a TL in Sainsbobs home delivery & we saw this all the time, especially when items such as big pack of toilet rolls are on offer.

In which case Sainsburys ought to change their online shopping site, so only items they actually stock in a particular store are available for online shopping from that store.

As would Tesco's,Asda,Morrisons ect ect ect.....

Anyway I'm no IT geek, but it wouldn't work or be pheasable as stock levels change second to second & in order to do that, each store would have to have it's own online ordering website as well as database linked to the stock system.
In order to do that it'd cost gawd knows how much.

If you order it 2 days before it's delivered, they won't know if it will be in stock or not, as they may have sold out.

For offers like this I usually head to a store, even then sometimes it may be sold out so you can't get it anyway.

I'm no Tesco fan, but when Tesco substitute they charge the same price as the out of stock item would have been (if the substitute is more expensive). IMHO Sainsburys should do the same.

I got the impression the swapped item was a similar price to the offer champagne. However the problem was it was a poorer quality product

Not bait and switch, its a simple problem which is the store gets X amount of cases of the item on a delivery. It gets put on the shelf and inbetween it being put on the shelf and the shopper coming along to pick your champers other shoppers and customers have come along and took a bottle or 2 or a case and before you know it the shelf is completely empty. You had the option of picking no subs but you chose to accept alternatives so you got a substitute. There is no other champagne on offer at half price so the shopper has to pick an alternative. Also sainsburys dont offer subs at the price of the item you originally ordered.
