Maybe you read you can download the iplayer app. Not seen a download button on my galaxy S2.

Unless its an ICS thing. Not keen on ICS, I prefer my gingerbread layout.

You can download programs on the Apple Iplayer App, but not on the Android version. [ but they say it's coming! ]

As above, it is for Apple devices only and given the mess that is the Android Iplayer application I'm not expecting them to add the functionality to it anytime soon.

I use it often and it doesn't work perfectly all the time!

Consistently it doesn't download when it should, often it crashes upon trying to download/trying to play downloaded (when that actually works!), or even just switching tabs.

And why doesn't my favs on my desktop copy over to the favs on the ipad, and vice-versa.

Thus said, when it actually works, it's quite good!
  • I can't comment on downloading programmes because android doesnt have that function yet. But i've never once had a problem with watching programmes either live or catchup.

The Android Iplayer is a long way behind the IOS versions, the video quality is terrible - it's reminiscent of early streaming videos as even on high quality mode there are blocky compression artifacts. The recent and long awaited update was supposed to fix these problems, enable Iplayer for 4.1 devices and improve 4.0 devices but while they've separated Iplayer into its own application and a separate media player application the quality is just as poor as it was before the update. It still seems to get stuck buffering on adequate connections, time jumping is hit or miss whether it works and pausing can be fatal.

As an example, this is a shot from the intro to this week's Click from the application running in high quality mode over a wireless network:

Given the powerful hardware and large high definition screens available on Android, it's just a joke it's so bad.
