Its not random..... That staff member thinks long and hard before sticking the pin in the list :rotfl:
Can you explain this then? I made a payment to my Aqua card and the payment was refused and then they rang me up asking if I was attempting to make a payment to my account.

Do fraudsters commonly pay other peoples accounts off for them?

I've also had a payment declined for £4, but then the same supplier on the same day was authorised for a payment of £352.

Your card provider do not know who's account is being paid.... And yes fraudsters do pay other peoples accounts off.
Set up a credit card account. Spend on it. THen use 3rd parties card to pay off.
    Nice easy scam.

If you had contacted the card provider after hte decline/refer. Then a marker is placed on the card that limits fraud checks for a set period.

Regularly see fraud attempts from ZERO (address check) to thousands.. You can pick any amount you like between the too.

  • Personally I think this can only be a good thing. I have had my bank ring me several times to query transactions. (Yet strangely I paid the balance when I picked up my E-class of 38k on a debit card and it went straight through, no questions asked! - mind you that was seven years ago.)

So i dont think you have any reason to be kross, kriss.

(groan, sorry, that was really, really poor but I couldn't resist! :D)

Last Thursday I tried paying for an iPad at Apple online, it got declined £315 before I had a chance to find my debit card I had a phone call from the CC to ask if I had tried using it. After a few questions they said to try and use myCC again and it went through. I think they are finally being a bit more alert toCC fraud.

This was what was declined on mine. Exactly the same transaction.

I tried to pay for something costing £300 this morning. The card was declined although I know the present balance is just1/10th of the available credit and I pay the balance in full every month.
When I phoned I was told that it was blocked because I had never used it for anything that expensive before. Seems a bit silly if I have to phone to get permission to use the card.

It might seem silly be they are looking after you (& themselves), protecting from fraudulent use. Better they stop the transaction than to find you have had your card cloned and as you say it is not a normal transaction and higher than you would normally make then they are being cautious.
This can also happen around Christ,as time with unusual purchases.

Frustrating I know but better to be safe than sorry.

And I thought that cards are there to help you buy items that you want at any time of the day...

So bank with a 24/7/365 bank then and you won't have any issues.

Don't blame the banks for security checks.... Blame the fraudsters who take your details.
