Transferring Existing Car Policy Issue

Hello,
So I've just bought a new car and wanted to transfer the existing policy from my previous to the new one. Now, I imagined the premium may rise slightly, but in anticipation that they may over quote me I thought I'd try a price comparison on the new car, to see what the current company would offer. It's paid by monthly direct debit so it rose to £66.50 (about £6 more than previous) - this is fine.
I rang the insurance company earlier, waited for them to tell me how much more I'd have to pay and the man on the phone mentioned something about £104 and spreading it out over the next 6 months of the remaining policy (therefore raising it to around £80 monthly). I was confused about what this £104 was, and after trying to get him to explain it (jargon ensued), it still didn't make sense to me. I mentioned that I had used a price comparison site and they had quoted me £66 monthly, but I'm not sure if he misunderstood me and thought this is what the cheapest company out there would offer, instead of his company.
So basically, I would like some advice. Does anyone have an idea what this £104 is (some kind of deposit?!) and therefore why I am not paying £66 like I'd hoped? What are other peoples experiences of swapping existing policies? The company I'm with is Insure, by the way :)

£60 extra premium and £50 admin fee to swap the details over.

    Sounds about right.

Avoid these charges by not swapping mid term or pay a bit extra for cover and go with a company that dont charge admin fees.

All balances out in the end. Just open your pockets and let them raid them.

  • Admin fee is £35, and I didn't really have a choice about swapping mid term due to previous car being knackered.
But thanks for your thoughts :)
