Amex Gold Card - Still waiting for a decision!

I applied for the above card, as I will shortly be spending £2,000.00 on a holiday and I was hoping to take advantage of the rewards.

I wasn't declined automatically, but advised, on screen, that I would get a postal decision.

A week later and I have heard nothing, I phoned today and the underwriters don't work at the weekend.

Are the chances of me being successful now tiny? Is there another card with comparable rewards, that I might get accepted for if declined for this one. My credit rating is excellent.

I applied online for this card on Oct 9 and got an email saying

Thank you for applying for the Gold Card. We do try to give everyone an instant decision on their application, but it's not always possible. Unfortunately we are unable to give you a final decision today.

We just need to do a few extra checks before your application can be processed and we will let you know the final decision within the next 10 working days.

However I got an email the next day saying it was successful so if you've been waiting a week, it doesn't look good (assuming you also applied online)

I checked and that is the same e-mail as I got. I have scrawled through my deleted and junk mail, but nothing .....

It feels like one of those interviews, where all the successful candidates get notified first and the rest of us don't even get a sorry but letter! Will still give them a ring tomorrow, so I can move on :rotfl:.

Give them a call during office hours.... It was well over a week after I applied for my amex charge card that I called them to find out what was going on and was told it had been approved that morning so they then went through the card benefits and set up some of the additional benefits for me etc
