Blurb on the college website and some other places says for those under 25 tuition for level 3 qualifications and under (GCSEs, A-levels, BTECs etc) is free tuition but you may have to pay course costs including exams yourself. Then the stuff about the bursary fund to pay for those costs for those on low income (I forget what it's called).
Sorry, for some reason I thought you already had a level 3 qualification. I must be confusing you with someone else.0 -
What qualifications do you have so far littlerat?
You do realise that medicine is highly competitive? At the university I am studying at we have over 2400 applications for 162 places.SPC #1813

That's ok Dunroamin - it happens easily
LunaLady, just GCSEs - I'm looking into access courses as well. Yep I know - about 40% of applicants overall each year get in (though the total number includes those who apply without the right subjects, grades and who completely miss their offers) - I know I'll need work experience, volunteering, a great PS and a nice dollop of luck to get in. May take more than one application round too. Willing to do the work - something I was seriously considering before my life went awry.
Thanks all
Have just confirmed at the college of my choice I could do a-levels. 0 -
It makes me uncomfortable. Im sorry but it does. At least I'm honest about it. People get freaked out by my wheelchair, it puts them off but I don't go rolling up to them to tell them that's it's just a mobility aid. People stare at my brother who has a big facial scar, people just get uncomfortable around things they don't know. For me my thing is mental health. I don't mind mentally ill people who I meet in day to day life, i work with drug addicts, little kids with foetal alcohol syndrome and I treat them the same as everyone else but the idea of waking up in intensive care and having a mentally ill nurse/doctor frightens the life out of me!
You'd be surprised how many people DO have mental health problems. You can't see it, so how do you know your GP doesn't have problems. Do they tell you how they feel when you visit??
Also, the OP is making small steps into getting herself better and she will face huge obstacles along the way, but never should she meet someone who will judge her because of her illness.
If the OP passes all exams and gets over her illness, she may just be fitter and more competent than the GP you see now.
Good luck OP, I hope you achieve your dream and get better. It's a long road and a hard slog, but you seem determined to get well and I admire you for your efforts.0 -
