Mini Fridges - Do they work?

Hi,
I'm just in the process of moving into a new flat, but the layout is different from my old kitchen and doesn't have space for a standing fridge/freezer, so it's going to have to go into the cupboard in the hall. I can't afford to buy new separate integrated ones to fit.
I'm thinking of getting one of those cheap 4L or 6L fridges that are around £30-40 just so I can have a few handy things like a little carton of milk in the kitchen without having to go out into the cold hallway all the time - but do they keep your things properly chilled, and how energy efficient do they tend to be?
Thanks for you help.

I used to use a little Husky one while working away. Normally had a 4 pinter of milk some spread and a pack of meat in. Worked fine for keeping things cold even in poorly ventilated hotel rooms.
No idea on energy consumption I'm afraid though. It did seem to run full time so maybe not awfully efficient.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
my daugher had one once, it kept 6 cans of coke cold in it.credit card bill. £0.00
overdraft £0.00
Help from the state £0.000 -
the tiny ones do not, they work by cooling a metal plate with a fan and are dependant on out side temp as they cool to a certain amount below ambient room temp. what about a table top fridge thats the next size up but smaller rthan an under counter0

may be better off getting a working fridge off ebay as a temporary0

That's a really good idea. I might try Gumtree to see if I can get a decent second-hand one.0

Actual they work using a 'Peltier' thermoelectric solid state heat pump, which transfers heat from one side of the device to the other. with consumption of electric power, depending on the direction of the current. Hence the need to insure that is wired correctly or otherwise your cool box will became a hotbox. They have poor efficiency when compared with a standard fridge. The average small coolbox will use around 1.5 kilowatts per day.0 -
wouldnt use gumtree most stuff on there is a scam0

Try your local freegle/freecycle site.
Almost every day there is at least 2 to 3 fridges offered on my local sites.0
