Hey there. What makes a good app is pretty subjective and as you will discover, some of them are a complete waste of time or they are good in theory, but less so in practice.

In terms of money saving or money management it is worth seeing if your bank has an app (Barclays, HSBC etc) so you can review your balance on the go.

There is a good unofficial HotUKDeals app called 'Heat Droid' which is handy if you want to look out for deals in the middle of your super market shop.

There are lots of budgeting and expenditure tracking apps on there, each of them fairly similar.

All in all it's best to have a little search and try them. I tend to stick to the free apps but if you see an app that costs money on the google play store, remember that you can buy it and try it. If it isn't for you then you can get a refund if you do so within 15 minutes of installing.
  • Definitely get a battery saving app - I use Easy Battery saver (free) but there others as well. I would also recommend Bill Angel from CPW (free) to monitor usage and alert you when you are nearing your limit. If you plan to ring call centres on your phone a new app I've just discovered is weq4u; it finds the Geog number that relates to the 0845/0844/0870/0870 number so the call only comes out of your allowance. But the clever thing is it allows you to disconnect if you hit a queue then the app rings you back as soon as the CS answer the call. Very clever and money saving though not a 100% success rate at the moment ime.
