Hi,
Question for everyone.
I want to take a laptop away with me but I know I will be powering it via the mains.
Do I have to take the attached battery or will I be ok to use it without?
Many thanks in advance.

You should never have the battery in when you are using the laptop from the mains. Constantly charging the battery without discharging it will shorten its life drastically and batteries are expensive.
They are generally only covered for 6 months within your warranty period.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

You dont need the battery on mains. Only time its useful is if there is a power failure and you are using your laptop, it will die, but with battery in it will be saved
If the country you are going to has reliable electric supply then dont take it.0 -

Not having the battery in perhaps risks minor damage to the internal contacts and/or any plastic edges which might be protected when the battery is installed. I don't suppose the laptop came with a battery-sized blanking plate?

take the battery - you can use the laptop to watch films on the plane. if your worried about hand luggage weight put the battery in your pocket before checking in.0
