prepping raw chicken wings for cats

I've just bought a pack of chicken wings for the kitties (we have a 2 year old & a 4 month old) & just wondering what I should do prep-wise with them ?

It's a big pack so I thought that I could scissor it all up small & freeze in batches to defrost as a treat. I can easily chop up the wing tip & lower wing, but the upper wing bit is quite substantial which I can't use the scissors on. Can I just give this bit (I guess the equivalent of your upper arm) to them whole ?

TIA

    This is my routine ...

    • Open packet of chicken wings
    • Fight off cats who get a whiff and come running
    • Take two chicken wings and walk to back door
    • Throw in garden
    • Watch cats eat them like they havent eaten in a week :T
    • Close door.
Nice and simple. They will get through them. If they are new to them it might take them a while. Our newest to RAW food is quiet lazy with wings as they really need to work on them but he soon got the hang of it when Ollie came along and finished it off for him :rotfl:

brilliant, so i can individually freeze an entire wing without bothering to pre-process for even the littlest one?

    p.s love the photos

IMO do a test run before you freeze anything. Some cats will tackle an entire wing, some will knaw the meat off but leave the nutritious bone and marrow, some will only tackle chunks.

For Noah I used to joint the wings, discard the wing tip, use poultry shears to cut the two meaty segments in half. Highly recommend poultry shears, they make light work of the jointing and cutting but get metal handles because the plastic ones can snap. I bought mine for around a fiver from TKMaxx.

oh wow, I guess a whole chicken wing is ok for a kitten then !

just tried Smudge (4mo) on a bit of lambs heart & chicken wing - she's particularly unimpressed :o Maisie on the other hand is loving both. I previously bought some heavy duty kitchen shears by Victorinox and they make really light work of most of the wing - just can't handle the really chunky bits of what was obviously an older/body building chook, so will look into the shears

oh, and because no thread is valid without photos, here's a picture of our two:

:rotfl: They are contrary Marys .... Noah I expected to need persuading, he was across the room in a flash when I split the first pack of wings. Lulu (who is equally greedy) will eat teeny tiny morsels of chicken but no offal or bone in stuff. I could convert her, but it's not like Noah was. With offal Noah loved kidney even tho it stinks of men's toilets _pale_ but heart took a little longer to get used to. Raw tripe he also loved but it's like rubber!

IMO it's instinct combined with what they have been exposed to when they are young. Apparently cats show a preference for birds or mice depending what their mother hunted.
